Re: FM 2017: Reisen er belønning

Quite exciting given they're the Eredivisie champions although I guess it makes it much harder for me to exceed expectations. All that's officially expected of me this season, by the board at least, is to qualify for the Europa League. The media expect us to finish 4th.

I don't really have any money to spend this window but look who they've just signed on a free from United...

And he's not the only big name in the squad:

Should be pointed out though that this is FM 2017 and as such the game was made some time before Salah's ridiculous Liverpool season or Jovic's five goals in a single game. They should still both be very good though.

Early XI plan:

Been here less than a week and already won a trophy.

Technically meaningless, the Dutch Community Shield, but it's named after Cruyff and it goes on Fritjof's honours list so I reckon I'm chuffed.

Seeded 4th for the Champions League group stage so really this is as good a group as I could have hoped for.

Weirdly the first seeds in this group are AEK Athens, who won the Greek Superleague last season for the first time in 30 years. Leverkusen and Spurs both finished 3rd in the Bundesliga and Premier League respectively.

Another opportunity for Fritjof to take revenge on Spurs for turning him down / another opportunity for Fritjof to show why Spurs were right to turn him down.

2-0 down in less than three minutes! 3-2 up before half-time!

These early matches are showing this to be a really exciting Vitesse team. Fun to manage!

Two games and two defeats into the Champions League group stages, things were not looking promising. But an unexpected win over Leverkusen...

...sees us climb into 2nd place out of nowhere.

Although with games away to both Leverkusen and Spurs yet to come, I would still put our chances of advancing as remote.

Meanwhile, all has been going well in the league...

...and we're still in the KNVB Beker having won both of our ties so far.

Some world-class bullshit for us to lose the 'Gelderse Derby' against our main rivals NEC in the 94th minute.

Our first Eredivisie defeat since the opening day of the season.

What a night for 24-year-old Croatian midfielder Antonio Trograncic. A (real-life) product of both Bayern and Ajax's youth systems, Trograncic has had to wait patiently for his breakthrough moment - his Macheda moment - in a career that is yet to take off despite definite potential. That moment may have come in Matchday 6 of the Champions League group stage.

Unsurprisingly Spurs and Leverkusen took the two qualification spots fairly comfortably, leaving Vitesse and Alexis Sanchez's AEK Athens to scrap it out for 3rd place and the Europa League. With AEK having beaten us in Greece, and the two teams now level on points, we needed a win to take 3rd. We dominated throughout but couldn't find a way through. With an hour played, on came Trogancic for his Champions League debut. To be honest he wouldn't normally have even made the bench, but he was fresh off the back of scoring a brace in a heavily rotated Eredivisie win.

With it stuck at 0-0 with five minutes to go...

Fires us into the Europa League.

ffs. Guess my dreams of Europa success start and end here then.

Although Juve have only won the Serie A title once in the past five seasons, and they're in the Europa League because they finished behind Celtic in their CL group, so maybe this will in fact be extremely easy.
