A dramatic game ends in the 100th competitive win of Fritjof's career (from 196 played).

Woohoo, we have our Champions League group.

Not expecting to make it to the knockouts.

1st September 2022

Transfer window has now closed.

Have definitely done my bit to help our finances along, selling two fairly pricey players in Manaj and Partey and replacing them with one much cheaper alternative and one academy graduate. I think along with the money we'll make from this season's CL (CSKA have had three years without the CL until now, may partly be behind their troubles) we should clear FFP. Sigurdsson's made a pretty instant impact, Chalov looks like he'll be reliable enough when I need him and the others are more for the future.

Hasn't been a good season so far. We're dropping too many points and even when we win we're not convincing. We're currently 5th in the league and are unlikely to make it out of our CL group. Two of our more reliable performers, Ravet and Sigurdsson, have picked up long-term injuries. There are nine more games in all competitions until the winter break and unless we're somehow still in the CL at that point, I think it will be time for Fritjof to start planning his next move.

Unsurprisingly we are out of the Champions League.

We have one game left and need to beat Basel away to finish 3rd and stay in European competition.

In the last game before the winter break, we put in a thoroughly professional performance away to Basel. It gives us the win we needed to leapfrog Basel into 3rd in the group, and as such we will continue our continental journey by dropping down to the Europa League.

Beating Basel doesn't sound like much but given our inconsistent form, this is one of our most pleasing results of the season.

With just over half the league season played we are in 3rd and in with every chance of the top-two spot we need to secure the Champions League for next season. With lots of points dropped so far through draws, it's hard not to think that we perhaps should be well on our way to our second Prem'er Liga title running.

On a personal note, this time of year always sees a flurry of managerial departures and various interview invitations for me, and I don't think it will take very much to tempt me away.

Arsenal (managed by Klopp) are the current holders of the Champions League. They finished 3rd in their group this year though thanks to an incredible 6-0 defeat to Benfica - managed by Pochettino. Poch is still fully COYS.

Fritjof is no Poch and we won't get past them.

PSG are ridiculous. They have just reached the landmark of 100 Ligue 1 games unbeaten - that's two full consecutive seasons and they're now halfway to a third. They've only won one Champions League (2020), but they've won the Ligue 1 ten times in a row and the distance between them and the rest of the league is only getting wider. Last season they finished on 102 points, 31 points clear of 2nd place. They're on course to break the 100-point barrier again this season. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if within two or three years they manage a P38, W38 season.

They're managed by Zidane and some of their key players are Mbappe, Martial, Amadou Diawara, Óliver Torres, Ruben Neves and a 21-year-old €52m-rated regen DM called Edson Vieira. Their star though is an Argentine regen by the name of Horacio González, signed from Arsenal for €84m.

Managing in France to try and end PSG's era would be a good challenge but a fucking hard one. Managing PSG would be much more fun but Fritjof is obviously some way off that level.
